How the plant works

The transportation of 800 000 tonnes of biomass to MEC every year is obviously a huge challenge. The transportation of slurry alone requires 50 to 60 lorries a day travelling to and from the biogas plant.

MEC Biogas has chosen to combine carriage by lorry with a system of pipes which will for instance connect the central sewage treatment plant in Holstebro with the biogas plant. By leading the biomass through pipes, most unpleasant odours can be avoided and heavy traffic on the roads to the facility can be reduced.

A loading station east of Holstebro is also part of the plan. However, due to serious techical challenges we have not yet been able to use this pipeline. These complications are currently being dealt with by both legal and techinal teams.
